ใช่, พลาสติกคือวัสดุสังเคราะห์ที่มนุษย์สร้างขึ้น จากความท้าทายของทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่กำลังลดลง ด้วยความสามารถในการขึ้นรูปปรับเปลี่ยนไปตามความคิดสร้างสรรค์ พลาสติกจึงได้เข้าไปแทนที่ทุกอย่าง ตอบโจทย์ความต้องการได้อย่างไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด พลิกโฉมอุตสาหกรรมการผลิตเพื่อมวลชน และเปลี่ยนแปลงวิถีชีวิตของมนุษย์มาแล้วราว 150 ปี
ใช่, ถึงปัจจุบันพลาสติกชิ้นแรกก็ยังไม่ได้ถูกย่อยสลาย และดูเหมือนว่าการแก้ปัญหาหนึ่งกำลังสร้างอีกปัญหาหนึ่ง จนทำให้วันนี้ เราอาจต้องกลับมาทบทวนถึงการใช้วัสดุชนิดนี้อีกครั้ง เห็นความสำคัญของการออกแบบตั้งแต่จุดเริ่มต้น ว่าสิ่งต่างๆ ถูกสร้างอย่างไร จะถูกใช้อย่างไร และจะถูกเลิกใช้อย่างไร แล้วจะสามารถถูกนำกลับมาสร้างหรือเพื่อใช้ใหม่ได้อย่างไร
นิทรรศการ Yes, Plastic! Things to Rethink “เมื่อพลาสติกต้องคิดใหม่” เป็นความร่วมมือระหว่างสำนักงานส่งเสริมเศรษฐกิจสร้างสรรค์ (องค์การมหาชน) โดยศูนย์สร้างสรรค์งานออกแบบ (TCDC) และจีซี หรือบริษัท พีทีที โกลบอล เคมิคอล จำกัด (มหาชน) เพื่อนำเสนอศักยภาพของวัสดุและความคิดสร้างสรรค์ พร้อมทั้งตั้งคำถามการใช้งานทั้งในแง่คุณสมบัติ ผลกระทบ การออกแบบ และการอยู่ร่วมกันกับพลาสติกในอนาคต

Yes, plastic is considerably synthetic material deriving from the challenge of declining natural resource. With the creativity, plastic can diversely be formed into different shapes and benefit different industries. Plastic consequently replaced the entire materials with its endless possibility. It has changed the game of mass production and the way human beings live for the past 150 years.
Yes, the first man-made plastic is not yet decomposed and it seems that one solution leads to another challenge. It is time for us to rethink about how to use this material from the very start: beginning at how it is built, how it is used and how to create an effective after-use which delivers better system-wide economic and environmental outcomes.
The exhibition “Yes, Plastic! Things to Rethink” is initiated by Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) under the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC). With this synergy, the exhibition is proposing the power of material and creativity, presenting the potential of plastic and raising the significant questions of its qualification, environmental effect, design and the approach to live effectively with plastic in the future.
