PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS AND PUBLIC POLICY, SCHOOL OF GLOBAL POLICY AND STRATEGY, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SAN DIEGO
Krislert Samphantharak is currently a professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California San Diego and an advisor of Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research (PIER) at the Bank of Thailand. He is an expert in finance, economic development, and public policy. His research focuses on the behaviors of households and business enterprises and their roles in the economy. His book entitled “Households as Corporate Firms” was published by Cambridge University Press. He is currently working on book manuscripts “The Making of the Modern Southeast Asian Economies” for MIT Press and “Business Families: The Stories of Families Behind Businesses” (in Thai) for The Cloud Publisher.
Samphantharak holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from University of Chicago. He previously held visiting positions at the International Monetary Fund, University of California Los Angeles, University of Tokyo, and Yale-NUS College in Singapore. He also served as Executive Director of Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research.
