Mr. Hui Weng Cheong

PRESIDENT – AIS

Hui Weng Cheong was appointed President of Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS) on 1 October 2016. He is responsible for sales, marketing, products, enterprise business, engineering operations, regional operations, IT solutions, fixed broadband and customer service. He was Chief Operating Officer from January 2013 - September 2016, which was his second stint as Chief Operating Officer of AIS. He was Deputy President of AIS from November 2006 and Chief Operating Officer from September 2009 - October 2010.
Prior to this, Mr. Hui was Singtel’s CEO International, a role he assumed in October 2010. As CEO International, he was responsible for the growth of the Singtel Group’s overseas investments and strengthening its relationships with overseas partners, including Bharti (India and Africa), AIS (Thailand), Telkomsel (Indonesia), Globe (Philippines), Warid (Pakistan) and CityCell (Bangladesh).
A Singtel scholar, he graduated with First Class Honours in Engineering (Electrical) from the National University of Singapore in 1980. In 1992, through a Singtel sponsorship, he obtained his Master of Business Administration from the International Business Education and Research Program at the University of Southern California, USA.
Mr. Hui started his Singtel career as an Engineer and has more than 35 years of experience with the Singtel Group. In the early part of his career, he spent about ten years in the Teleview Division with two years in the UK, moving from technical design and development to planning and support. From 1993, he was responsible for the overall paging business.
In 1995, he was posted to Thailand as the Managing Director of Shinawatra Paging (a previous Singtel joint venture). He returned in 1999 and took on the role of Vice President (Consumer Products) and managed the product development of all new mobile, paging, internet, broadband and telephone businesses.
