Mint

Over the course of the history of photography, new terms were used as photography broke new technological grounds. Making photographic prints recalled the darkroom discipline. Equipment of the digital age brought unprecedented photographic interpretations, allowing a rolling wave of possibilities.

To “mint” is to produce for the first time; its parallel meaning is an act of entering into circulation of a ‘coin’. In a strange art-vs-money fusion, these two meanings converge to imply “to produce a piece of work and enter it into the circulation via the blockchain”. “Minting”
has become a new art vocabulary.

“Mint” is an exhibition of the works by “photographers who mint”. Photographers who defy conventions by allowing their works to enter the market circulation as NFTs. Photographers who are not afraid to confront the market value. Minting gives the artist that decision power:
to print or to mint.

Record prices paid in photography occurred when they are recognized as contemporary art. The show paints how photography has evolved in contemporary art context; how ideas, tools,
and technical innovations have changed the way photography is perceived.

Just as NFTs bring unprecedented valuation to the field, such circumstances open ways for a new audience to reach and appreciate photography. Photography is no longer shy to contemporary art and its currency.
